THE 2019 ANNUAL
Innovative drive meets environmental responsibility. This spring, we are giving away $10,000 in grants to individuals and organizations focused on creating positive impact with regards to environment and sustainability. We aim to support our fellow students and community members in our collective mission of environmental sustainability, from clean tech ventures to local conservation efforts, accessibility programs, and other projects geared at preserving and improving the natural integrity of our world.

2018 Grant Recipients
We're excited to announce the recipients of our inaugural CBE Sustainability Grant: young and forward-thinking local nonprofits, research initiatives, and student organizations committed to executing projects dedicated to sustainability and environmental impact in the upcoming calendar year.
Engineers without Borders
Harvard SEAS Engineers Without Borders received funding from CBE to go towards their Los Sanchez Water Supply Project. The ongoing second phase of this project intends to extend the water distribution system they constructed to the Alta Gracia neighborhood of Los Sanchez, Dominican Republic, providing access to 24/7 water.
Fleeing war, oppression, and climate change, hundreds of refugees and migrants arrive to Paris and other European cities every month. BubbleBox, a mobile, autonomous, and eco-friendly hygiene unit, aims to improve migrants' poor living and hygiene situations as a crisis management solution.
The Harvard Social Innovation Collaborative hosts an annual conference that promotes innovation in sustainable ways. The funds will go towards bringing in speakers in the context of urban sustainability.
The Haitian Vision Foundation develops multi-pronged, culturally sensitive, sustainable approaches to provide Haitians access to education, healthcare, and funding to support Haitian-initiated endeavors.
1for3 empowers underserved Palestinian communities to address environmental health and quality of life issues. Their goal is to create sustainable projects, focusing on water quality and access to water.
Refresh Bolivia is a completely student-run non-profit organization run by students at Harvard University that serves impoverished communities of Cochabamba, Bolivia. This money will go towards funding a Community Health Center.
MHASP is Boston’s oldest and largest student-run after school program, offering tutoring and mentorship to the youth in the community. The funding will go towards funding environmental-focused education curricula.
Students for Carbon Dividends is a national bipartisan coalition of student groups advocating for a free-market climate solution and bipartisan climate action. They host educational events, promote climate reality awareness through interviews and speeches, meet with lawmakers, and coordinate lobbying at the state and national levels.
The Harvard Dems' project seeks to engage the larger Harvard community in a push towards environmental sustainability and has an emphasis on collaboration with other student groups on campus and organizations within the greater Boston community.
Cabot Café is a student-run coffee shop located in Cabot House at Harvard. The funding for this project will go towards making their cafe more sustainable by reducing plastic and water usage.
For her summer research project, Harvard undergrad Julie is partnering with another CBE (Communities for a Better Environment) to bring awareness of the dangers of lead, arsenic, and benzene to the community near Exide Technologies' now-defunct battery manufacturing plant.
For his senior thesis project, Harvard undergrad James is working to develop a carbon sequestration device that requires only minimal energy input. The funding will go towards developing a prototype that uses "peridotite", a rock with high reactivity to Carbon Dioxide.
Dominic Mao, a lecturer in Harvard's Biology Department, is working to help enrich the lives of children in Manipur, India by creating an educational outreach program that provides mentorship to students and training to teachers.
